Are you seeing oil on the cooling fins on the right hand side of the engine - trailing back in the wind and spattering on the battery case?
Dollars to doughnuts you do NOT have a leaking head gasket but you do have a leaking seal on the right hand front bolt that holds the cylinder down - the one with the seal
About 99.9% of the oil leaks on the Savage have to do with that seal - there are lots of previous posts about it.
Keep the rubber side down
